So you're looking to use the console in Victoria II? You've came to the right place. A console is simply a text box that commands, often called cheat codes, are typed into. Commands can be used to do many things: give you money, claim the territory of other country, etc. Below we outline how to open the console, how to use it to run commands, and give you some tips.
Opening the console is quite simple, press either the grave key (`) or the tilde key (~) on your keyboard and it should appear somewhere on your screen. Pressing that key again will close the console. If pressing those keys doesn't open the console for you, it's likely due to you having a different keyboard layout. Here's a list of all possible hotkeys to open the console (try all of these, one should work!):
- `
- ~
- SHIFT + 2
- SHIFT + 3
- ALT + 2 + 1
After opening the console, all you need to do is type a command in and hit ENTER on your keyboard to run it. The prestige command will give your nation 55 prestige - to run this command, all you need to do is type prestige into the console and your country's prestige will increase by 55.
Some commands have "arguments", these are extra numbers or words that you need to add to a command to tell it what to do, they are separated by spaces. The tag command, for example, changes the country you are playing as to the country with the country tag you specify as an argument. A country tag is a 3 character code that is unique to each country: Germany's is GER, France's is FRA, Spain's is SPA, etc. To use the tag command to switch to Germany, all you'd have to do is type the following into the console:
