Age of Empires II, also known as AOE 2, is the second installment in the Age of Empires video game series, having been released two years after the original AOE, in 1999. AOE 1 took you through the Bronze Age to the Roman Times, and AOE 2 follows on from this, by taking you through the Middle Ages. You must collect resources such as wood, stone, and food to build an empire, battle enemies, and reign victorious.
Medieval 2 is the fourth installment of the Total War video game series. In this game, you are tasked with building up and managing an empire. Managing your empire involves many tasks including training your army to fight massive battles against those of other empires.
Imperator: Rome is Paradox Interactive's latest grand-strategy game. If the name didn't quite give it away, you are an imperator (a leader) in the Roman time period. Your duties as an imperator involve managing diplomacy, your nation's economy, and your citizens. If successful, you can expand by conquering new territory in war, and become the greatest nation.
Spore is a unique game that's hard to 'categorize' into one genre - it's best described as a real-time strategy simulation RPG action game (what a mouthful). In Spore, you start as a single cell that evolves through five main evolutionary stages, eventually reaching a space stage that allows you to travel across the galaxy, to over 500,000 different planets!
Age of Mythology, commonly abbreviated as AOM, is a popular real-time strategy game that was launched on 30th October 2002. In AOM, you play as either the Greeks, the Egyptians, or the Norse and run an empire, which involves both managing a civilization, building an army, and entering battles with the goal of conquering all!
Age of Empires III is the most recent installment of the AOE video game series (but not the last). AOE 3 continues on from AOE 2 in a similar way to which AOE 2 followed on from AOE 1, as it is set between the 15th and 19th century, which leads on from the Middle Ages (which AOE 2 was set in). In AOE 3, you are tasked with progressing a civilization by managing units, buildings, armies, and an economy from the 'Discovery Age' in 1492 AD through many stages until you reach the 'Imperial Age', in 1876 AD.
The Forest is one of the largest horror survival games, with both single player and multi player gamemodes. After your plane crashes in the middle of 'The Forest', you learn you are not alone: you must battle to survive against cannibalistic mutants by building, fighting, and crafting.
Age of Empires, also known as AoE, is over 20 years old, having been released in 1997. It is a real-time strategy game in which you are tasked with building and managing an empire beginning in the Stone Age, and progressing through to the Iron Age (and even to the Roman Empire with the Rise of Rome DLC).
Left 4 Dead 2, commonly referred to as L4D2, is the second and most-recent installment in Valve's Left 4 Dead video game series. In this first-person shooter zombie game, you'll find yourself fighting to survive against hordes of zombies whilst exploring cities, swamps, and other areas in the game's vast array of maps.
Victoria II is the second installment in Paradox Interactive's Victoria video game series. The grand strategy game set in the colonial era of the 19th century remains popular today, despite being released almost a decade ago in 2010.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) and Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (KOTOR 2) are role-playing games set in the Old Republic era of Star Wars - which takes place more than 3,000 years before the events of the movies. The games throw you into the action of the Old Republic era from the get-go, as you come into contact with Darth Malak's callousness in KOTOR 1 and the gripping trio of Darth Sion, Nihilus and Traya in KOTOR 2.
Factorio is, as you might've guessed from the name, a video game built around the construction and maintenance of factories. Although it sounds simple in principle, you'll find your character searching for resources, researching new technologies and fighting off enemies that threaten your legacy.
In CK2, you are tasked with controlling a dynasty from the Middle Ages (1066 to 1453), which involves hundreds of tasks such as managing religion, diplomacy and of course, war (along with all the things that come with it like alliances, tactics and technology). Like many of Paradox Interactive's games, Crusader Kings II remains popular after its release half a decade ago!
